I make paintings and photographs that try to capture what light is carrying — energy, presence, the things you can almost see but not quite. My practice began in a college darkroom and has been quietly going for twenty-five years. I'm finally bringing the work into the open.

The practice

Painting with light

Long-exposure photography used as a painting medium. Aperture open, the room nearly black, a flashlight in the hand — the camera catches shapes the eye can't see. I started reading those shapes as entities — energy I was carrying, or that was already in the room, made visible.

Art is science

Pick a subject. Deep-dive. Run the tests. Display what you find. I treat each body of work like a study — you can investigate anything, and the artwork is where the findings get presented.
